First stakeholder meetings: March 2006

To hear stakeholder views on objectives, indicators and targets for the sustainability appraisal, two initial workshops were held, one in each of the study regions of the project (the South-West and the East Midlands) on March 9th 2006 at the University of Exeter and on March 20th 2006 at Kegworth, respectively.

At each of these meetings, an introductory talk on RELU-Biomass was given by the Project coordinator, Angela Karp followed by an introduction to Sustainability appraisal by Alan Bond. These talks are available to stakeholders, by email request, from Angela Karp. Alan Bond then explained how the workshop would be run and what was sought from the stakeholder participation. In brief, the remainder of the day was divided into three parts and stakeholders were invited to suggest objectives, indicators and targets for the development of sustainability appraisal framework for social, economic and environmental issues, respectively. In each case, stakeholders work independently at first and then discussed suggestions as a group.

Results are being collated together and the outcome of these meetings will soon be circulated to all stakeholders for comments.
